  • Teens save lost pit bull

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Apr 5, 2017

Cold, alone and scared was how she was found in the road. The 10-month-old pit bull ran across North Second West Street next to Centennial Park right in front of a carload of teenagers. "We were just driving around because we had nothing else to do," Derrik Erickson said. At first, the group thought they had hit the dog, but they didn't hear a yelp or feel a thump against the car. However, they still stopped the car to check on the dog. All six of the Green River teenagers, Taylor Thornton,...

The Green River High School Lady Wolves Girls Soccer Team won its first game last Tuesday afternoon and is hoping for more wins this weekend. With 3-1, the Lady Wolves beat the Evanston Lady Red Devils, however, the win didn’t come easily for them. “We played good,” head coach Tracy Wyant said. “A win’s, a win.” For 90 percent of the game, the Lady Wolves controlled the pace and dominated the game, she said. Even though the team was controlling the game, they just couldn’t get the ball into the...

  • Better balance class helps seniors

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Apr 5, 2017

Soft music was coming from the exercise room, and the calm voice of an instructor could be heard giving people directions. Better Balance Class teacher Mary Grubb was explaining each move to the eight-person class Monday morning. "You guys are the perfect example of people who are trying not to fall," Grubb said. She continued to give the students instructions on how to elongate their spines in order to have better posture. Once the group warmed up through stretches, they started making ball...

Despite the losses, head coach Tracy Wyant felt it was good for the team to start competing. "We found good in it," Wyant said. "We need to be pressured. We needed to play those really good teams. The team is plagued with injuries right now. Wyant said she has a couple of players with sprains,...

  • Nylons: my enemy

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Mar 29, 2017

Every time I purchase a pair of nylons I should just chuck them in the trash as soon as I get home. That’s just where they will end up anyways. Or better yet, I should just not buy them. Yet, I always get tricked by the clever advertising on the nylon packages that claim they are slimming, durable and comfortable. If their idea of comfortable is feeling like the circulation in your lower body is being cut off at the waist, then I guess their ads are right. I mean, I will actually get a s...

Two rooms were packed with books, while a few tables were filled with homemade treats. This was the scene at the Golden Hour Senior Center Saturday during its Bake and Book Sale. GHSC board chair Margene Chew was happy with how many visitors the center was receiving for the sales and she is hoping to see more people coming in this week. "We've had a steady turnout," Chew said. Although it looked as if most of the homemade goodies, including cinnamon rolls, lemon bars, cookies and breads, would b...

In the notice, Anglesey asked the court to exclude the introduction of jail calls, video visits or statements derived from conversations he had with his wife, Chanelle Anglesey, under Wyoming State...

  • Fun had at scavenger hunt

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Mar 22, 2017

Seniors at the Golden Hour Senior Center were trying their luck of the Irish during a St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt. Last Thursday, seniors who wanted to participate in the hunt were given a list of items they need to find throughout the center. Apparently, pesky leprechauns hid photos of Irish-related items throughout the center for residents to find. Participants were given a Ziploc bag to put all of the pictures in. The one who collected all of them the fastest and correctly took first...

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Mar 15, 2017

It’s likely Green River residents will see an increase of $5 to $10, or even more, for the trash collection services provided by the city. At the Green River City Council workshop Tuesday night, the Council had the opportunity to ask city employees any questions they wanted to about proposed solid waste rate increases, shutting down the landfill and opening the transfer station. During the conversation about the rate increases, at first $5 to $10 amounts were mentioned, but later on in the w...

  • Yum! Green eggs and ham

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Mar 15, 2017

One doesn’t have to wait until Dr. Seuss’ birthday to have green eggs and ham. Last week, the preschool my youngest son, John, 4, attends was hosting a Dr. Seuss event. This event was not only for the students who attend the school, but an open house for those who wanted to learn more about the preschool. I signed up to bring treats and was asked to make green eggs and ham. I didn’t know what they wanted, but then I received a photo of what I was asked to make, it was a picture of pretz...

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Mar 15, 2017

Barbara Bates, GHSC activities and marketing coordinator said this program is designed to help seniors by donating pet food, paying for vaccinations and medications and anything else they might need for their pets. “A lot of seniors forego their own needs to care for...

The team ended their season 10-12, with a loss to the Lady Red Devils last Thursday, 50-42. “I thought we started out really well defensively in the first half,” head coach Rick Carroll said. The team kept the Lady Red Devils in check for the first half, but let the team get away from them in the third quarter. It was something the team couldn’t come back from....

  • Dressed up to learn about rhymes

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Mar 8, 2017

It was as if characters from Dr. Seuss' books came to life and were living at the Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center last Thursday. From characters like Cindy Lou Who, the Cat in the Hat, Thing One and Thing Two, the children were dressed up and ready to learn about Dr. Seuss and his great books. Throughout the building, children enjoyed dressing up to celebrate Dr. Seuss' March 2 birthday, but more seemed to be dressed up in the Seussville class, which was fitting. CDC teacher...

Streets supervisor Randy Koloff said this past Thursday and Friday were just really hard on the crew, the equipment and residents alike. "There's more snow than we can handle," Koloff admitted. The city has a snow-removal plan it uses and was in the process of following this plan when they had to stop what they were doing and start clearing staging areas for vehicles...

  • A few hours stuck on I-80

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Mar 1, 2017

Snowfall last Thursday made for an unusual day for residents of Sweetwater County. Snow accumulation and terrible road conditions were anything but typical. Since I drive back and forth between Green River and Rock Springs quite a bit I’m pretty good at judging the road conditions. But even I, in all my infinite wisdom of 15 years living in Wyoming, was thrown through a loop Thursday morning. After I made sure my oldest son, Matthew, got on the bus, my youngest son, John, 4, and I made our w...
