  • Helping a son with broken braces

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Sep 20, 2017

It hadn’t even been a week; and already my son had his first braces injury, which left him with a couple of broken brackets and a cut lip. Of course this incident would have to happen right before bedtime. My boys, John, 5, and Matthew, 7, were supposed to be getting ready for bed. Instead, I hear all sorts of noises coming from John’s bedroom, which led me to believe that they weren’t getting their pajamas on or ready for bed. As I approached the closed door, which is something I don’t allow m...

  • Rocking Sweetwater County

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Sep 20, 2017

A new craze is taking over the county and maybe even the state. No. It's not "Pokeman Go" or geocaching. It's something one must find, yet not even know they are looking for. They'll know it when they find it. It all started when one Sweetwater County resident found a rock while she was visiting Colorado. Sandy Cheeseman said she was leaving a store in Craig, Colo., when she found a painted rock. On the back of the rock was information about the Moffat County Rock program. Cheeseman followed...

He was diagnosed at a young age. His mother, Sara Hamilton, noticed when Jimmy was around two years old that he wasn't developing the way he should. "He's my fourth child, so I knew he wasn't meeting benchmarks," Sara said. Sara made sure Jimmy received the help he needed and didn't allow an autism diagnosis define him. "I don't want to limit him," Sara said. With that attitude in mind, Jimmy, 11, hasn't been limited, he's done just about anything he's wanted to try, including dirt bike racing,...

  • Another new phase

    STEPHANIE THOMPSON, People Editor|Sep 13, 2017

Bring on the braces. My oldest son, Matthew, 7, got braces put on exactly two weeks ago. He was so excited to get them on and the place I took him to made it a wonderful experience. After his braces were put on, he was given three helium balloons attached to a pudding cup with a spoon. He also received a draw-string bag with a T-shirt, water bottle and everything he would need to be brace successful, including wax, mouth wash, tooth brushes, flossers and floss. He was smiling at everybody as big...

  • One piece at a time

    STEPHANIE THOMPSON, People Editor|Sep 13, 2017

It may take him days to complete a 1,000-piece puzzle, but it's something he enjoys. For Roger Stamper, a self-proclaimed staunch Democrat, creating beautiful American-themed puzzles has become a favorite pass time. Stamper is often seen at Sage View Care Center, sitting with puzzle pieces scattered in front of him. He takes his time finding just the right piece before trying to put it in place. Stamper, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, is a double-leg amputee and a veteran, has been in...

  • We have colds already?

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Sep 6, 2017

It has literally only been two weeks of school and I’m already sick. What gives? It’s like from the moment school starts until the day it ends someone in the family has a cold or worse, the flu. Everyone always jokes about kids being petri dishes, but I think they’re right. My youngest son, John, came home with a soar throat and then a cough and runny nose accompanied by a lot of sneezing. Now, I have a soar throat, terrible head congestion, a running nose and a little cough. I thought we had t...
