    The beginning of 2017 came with cold and snow, but that didn't stop Green River children from having fun. In January, students in Sweetwater County were enjoying going back to school after Christmas break. Students were wearing snow pants, hats, scarfs, gloves, boots and heavy winter coats to fight the cold.     In February, Green River residents were asked to support the Green River High School for its annual blood drive. Community members and adults alike waited patiently for their turn to donate. Last year, the city's residents donated 245 pints, while Rock Springs donated 256. More importantly though, 1,500 lives can be saved with the donated blood.     Despite the numbers not adding up, the Sweetwater County Commissioners approved a motion to restaff a clerical position in Juvenile Probation.     On Monday morning, while temperatures were in the 20s, eight cars derailed in the Green River yard. Kristen South, Union Pacific Railroad media relations director for the Wyoming area, said at about 9:45 a.m. eight cars derailed, but remained in an upright position.     Around noon last Thursday, traffic on Uinta Drive was diverted and two businesses were evacuated after a contractor hit a gas line. According to Darren Shepherd, Dominion Energy Wyoming spokesman, a contractor completing work near two businesses hit a one-way feed, 2-inch plastic gas line.
