Fredrick Schwartz, Sweetwater County School District No. 2’s Young Authors coordinator, said just one school alone submitted more than 300 entries, which made for a pretty tough competition. Clapping and laughter filled the air as seniors moved along to the music. The Golden Hour Senior Center's Zumba Gold class continues to grow the longer it runs. They were swaying back and forth while mimicking the moves Z...

  • Ask, don't demand

    STEPHANIE THOMPSON, People Editor|Feb 28, 2018

The old adage, “You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar,” is something that still resonates with me. It’s also something I wish other people would remember when they are approaching me for a favor. Like most people, I don’t like people demanding that I do something for them. If you really want me to do a favor for you, would it kill you to ask nicely? I just don’t understand where the simple common courtesies such as “please and thank you” are going. It seems as though those are thr...

  • Political action is needed for change

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Feb 21, 2018

Lately, it seems as though all the Wyoming Legislature wants to do is cut, cut, cut, while sitting on a pile of saved money. It’s one thing to cut because there’s no other choice, but it’s another thing to cut because “education funding deserves its fair share of cutting too.” Some Wyoming Legislators have actually said things close to the quoted statement above. Before I continue, I want to make it clear that when I speak of the Wyoming Legislators, I am mostly talking about the ones who are no...

  • Donations help kids eat

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Feb 14, 2018

  • Where have all the mittens gone?

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Feb 14, 2018

It’s every mother’s challenge. Trying to figure out where their kids’ mittens, boots, shoes, hats and even coats are at. What’s worse is then they start attending school and these items don’t come home anymore. I know I’m not the only one who has children with this problem because when I went to my sons’ school to dig through the lost and found bin, there were three bins. In fact, so many items had been lost that they had a system for it. One bin was for all the missing hats, a second was fo...

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Feb 14, 2018

For one Green River resident, staying idle isn't something she's ever going to do and her lifestyle is a reflection of that. When Karly Eyre isn't busy teaching at Lincoln Middle School, she's coaching, participating in her favorite sports or serving her country in the Wyoming Army National Guard. Recently, she participated in the Western Regional Championships biathlon competition in Jericho, Vermont. Eyre, who admits to being extremely new to the sport, is still learning about it. Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Feb 14, 2018

Residents at the Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center were learning a new type of art -- decoupage. During the weekly Crafts with Kathy Elliott class Friday morning, those participating in the class were learning how to decoupage. Most of them hadn’t even heard of such a thing, but once they found out what it was, they were ready to give it a try. Decoupage is nothing more than a slight of hand. When done correctly, it gives one the impression that something was hand painted, but in real...
