A tax error will give Sweetwater County about $2.37 million, but how it will be divided among the towns and cities is still unclear. During a recent Sweetwater County Commissioners meeting, county treasurer Robb Slaughter informed the commission the county will be receiving additional tax money because of a tax error. Slaughter said the Department of Revenue informed him that a Sweetwater County vendor mistakenly reported its taxes to Natrona County instead of Sweetwater County. The error,...

As I was typing up the community calendar for next week a sudden realization hit me -- there’s only one month left before the kids go back to school. What? I think “That can’t be right. They just got out of school.” However, a quick double check of the calendar only confirms it. I start thinking about my mental checklist of all the things I wanted to do with my boys this summer and I start to panic. Then I realize I may not have gotten to do all the things I wanted to do with them, but they have...
"Rock painting?" "Why are we going to paint rocks?" These were just a couple of questions seniors at the Golden Hour Senior Center had before they found out just how fun rock painting can be. Activities and marketing coordinator Irish Kreis is always looking for new and fun things for the seniors to do. She said the rock painting idea was stolen from 307 Rocks, which is a local group that paints rocks, hides them and encourages others to find them, take a photo of them and post it to their...

One can't help but notice the huge horses, the train and Castle Rock painted on the side of a building when driving downtown. The mural was a project the URA/Main Street Committee commissioned. "As I know, the committee had a lot of submissions and they choose several semi-finalists," Krautsou said. "Everybody proposed a design. As a result, they chose mine and now this massive beautiful...

I’m not sure what’s worse -- a cold or the medicine to treat the cold. It’s bad enough to have gotten a summer cold, but for me it’s always tough trying to decide whether or not to suffer it out or give in a take some medication. If I don’t take the medication, I have to deal with the constant head pounding, sneezing, sore throat, coughing and overall ickiness I feel when I get a cold. However, if I take the medication, then I feel as though I am watching my own life pass me by in slow moti...

However, after a short recess and realizing the initiative would die and not be placed on the general election ballot if they failed to act on a resolution, the...

Every once in a while, a memory from my childhood comes back to me vividly. Sometimes it doesn’t even have anything to do with what I’m doing, but the memory floods in and I can’t help but relive it. Sometimes the memories are good and other times they are bad, but they’re my memories just the same. This past week, as I was thinking about the Fourth of July fireworks my family will see, when a memory came back to me. It was when I saw my first big fireworks show. I was probably in element...

Chairman Reid West said it sounds like the cities are going to want to discuss getting a sixth-cent initiative. “We already have a position on it,” West said. That positio...
