    An economic study commissioned by Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County claims the hospital generated a $216 million economic impact within the county in 2015. The report, which was posted on the hospital’s website, was created by Quorum Health Resources, a Tennessee-based company which provides consulting for independent hospitals, as well as purchasing and website support.     A few tricks were reported by county residents as costumed trick-or-treaters made their way throughout their neighborhoods Monday evening. According to the Green River Police Department, officers responded to an undisclosed address in reference to a report of a larceny.   • Quilting art on display at White Mountain Library

    The Sweetwater County Library System is currently displaying the annual Sweetwater Quilters’ Exhibit. This is an open show in which local quilters are encouraged to submit their work for the public to enjoy. This exhibit consists of 10 quilts designed as wall hangings and can be seen at the White Mountain Library now through November.     With Lousie Wesswick’s passing last week, the county has lost one of its biggest proponents of the humanities. Wesswick headed up the Wesswick Foundation, which provided funding to a number local events and causes, much of which supported speakers and performers at Western Wyoming Community College. The college’s speaking series was named for both Louise and her sister, Arlene Wesswick.     The Sweetwater County Commissioners agreed to support a speed study the Wyoming Department of Transportation plans to conduct near Jamestown. According to Public Works Director Gene Legerski, WYDOT has received a number of complaints about the 70 MPH speed limit change that occurs near the town on Wyo.     The Green River High School Cross Country team performed well at regionals at the Paradise Valley Country Club in Casper last week. The boys team finished fourth while the girls took fifth in the varsity competitions. The regional meet saw great finishes from the Green River runners, including Bradin Reichl, who took eighth in the boys varsity event and Kaisa Arnell, who finished sixth in girls varsity.     The Wyoming Game and Fish Department continue to see evidence of poaching taking place throughout Sweetwater County. The most recent incident took place on Aspen Mountain, where a poached deer was found near County Road 27. “I believe the deer was killed late on Oct. 8 or before daylight on Oct. 9.     Two Sweetwater County men were killed in an alleged double homicide in Gillette and two Gillette residents stand accused of their deaths. According to the Gillette News-Record, Michael Montano, 37, of Gillette, is accused of killing 33-year-old Philip Brewer and 38-year-old Jody Fortuna, facing two second-degree homicide charges, as well as two charges of mutilation of dead human bodies.     Steven Dean McLaren was sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence on five felony counts, including Attempted Second Degree Murder, by Third Judicial District Court Judge Richard Lavery on August 31, 2016. Judge Lavery sentenced 53-year-old McLaren to a total of 63 to 81 years to be served in the Wyoming State Penitentiary.
