A three-vehicle crash occurred at Truman Elementary School on Shoshone Avenue last Thursday. Green River police report the female driver, driving a pickup pulling a small trailer, suffered a seizure at the wheel. This seizure caused her to loose control of the vehicle. The funding is being eliminated due to the first round of budget cuts caused by the novel coronavirus. The Green River Volunteer Fire Department had their work cut out for them after being dispatched to a deck fire and a trailer fire less than six hours apart. Just after one a.m., firefighters were called out to the scene of a deck fire on New Mexico Street. Two classrooms at the YWCA Early Care Center were closed following a positive COVID-19 case tied to the building. Students and teachers inside those rooms will be quarantined. Green River has recently completed a series of energy-efficient projects which will save the taxpayers thousands of dollars each year. The city’s parks and recreation department completed six different projects over the course of three years, which will result in an estimated cost savings of $56,000 yearly. The search for a missing boy at the Flaming Gorge ended Tuesday night after his body was recovered from the Big Firehole Canyon area. Deputies responded to a report of two missing people Friday at about 7 p.m. Deputies were informed a 34-year-old Rock Springs man and a 7-year-old boy were missing since departing their campsite in a side-by-side at about 11:30 p.m. the previous night. The Wyoming National Guard began their summer training on Saturday at The Greater Green River Intergalactic Space Port. According to a press release, 34 soldiers started working on leveling out the dirt airstrip as well as adding drainage. A Green River Police Department officer tested positive for COVID-19 Monday afternoon, leading to the officer being isolated at home. According to a press release from the city, the patrol officer is in good condition and the department believes it is a single positive case. The officer was not named in the press release due to HIPPA regulations. The Green River City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance that will alter the maximum number of kids permitted in a home daycare Tuesday night. This ordinance will also allow a daycare center to be included in an R-1 or R-2 zoning district. Responding to seven calls within five hours, the Green River Fire Department had a busy day last week. The calls took place from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday and included a structure fire reported at 4:30 p.m., at 610 Wilson St. According to Larry Erdmann, assistant fire chief, the fire was caused by a plastic cigarette butt container placed next to the trailer.
