A early-morning house fire Saturday was caused by a rechargeable battery pack according to the Green River Fire Department. Emergency responders were dispatched to the fire at 1050 Wilkes Drive shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday morning. When they arrived, firefighters found the fire to be limited to the home’s main living room. The homeowners were able to extinguish the flames and most of the hot spots when firefighters arrived, though the home suffered extensive smoke damage. The Wolves’ basketball season ended in a disappointing fashion last week after the boys lost both their regional tournament games. Seeded second in the tournament, the boys took on the seven-seeded Rock Springs Tigers in Riverton March 3. The Green River High School boys swim team competed in their last regular meet of the season last weekend, going up against 16 other teams in Gillette. Investigators say there are not any updates regarding an investigation of who called in a threat against the Sweetwater County Courthouse earlier this month. The Denver Division of the FBI is warning residents of both Colorado and Wyoming of a phone scam being conducted where the caller identifies themselves as a law enforcement official and asks for money or gift cards to clear supposed warrants and fines. YWCA of Sweetwater County’s Festival of Trees 2021 kicked off a festive start to the new year and helped raise over $20,000 to help support YWCA clients. The Wolves wrestling program took on multiple teams over the weekend, competing at meets in Reno, Nevada and Kemmerer. “The team we took to Reno competed well against some top tier competition. Athletics Director Tony Beardsley said the tournament is larger than it has been in previous years, with 19 girls varsity teams and 18 boys varsity teams participating in the tournament. Longtime Green River High School volleyball coach Rikki Shantz has decided to step down from her position. On Monday, Ciner Enterprises agreed to sell a controlling interest in its Ciner Resources Corporation to Sisecam of Istanbul, Turkey. Ciner Resources Corp. owns a 72% limited partner interest in Ciner Resources LP, the soda ash plant west of Green River. The Sweetwater County Foster Care program’s emergency clothes closet is severely depleted and Peterson Beckner Industries (PBI) has made it a mission to help restock it.
