The governing body passed the recent fiscal year 2017-2018 budget this last week as part of the June 20 council meeting. This year’s internal budget process was again focused on maintaining service levels with less funding. To get to this approval we as the city, the council, the finance committee, the department heads, and staff had to focus on the budget with a view of being able to reset, rethink, and refocus all areas of the city. While we are always looking at the budget throughout the year, and managing all of its elements, we zeroed in o...

Recently, the Wyoming Association of Municipalities produced its first Municipal Finance Report in an effort to address Wyoming’s economic downturn and potential solutions for the long-term financial health of cities and towns. This report was compiled by a team of Wyoming municipal leaders forming a Municipal Finance Task Force that met throughout the summer. On Sept. 27, the City of Green River was the guest presenter for the Green River Chamber’s “Lunch and Learn” series they have each month. This is the second time they presented the “State of the City,” for chamber members and guests, and they did it to a packed house. What’s good to share at these events is the many programs, projects, and updates from different department head perspectives and governing body representatives. This year we also had a guest speaker from the state director for the office of the Corporation for National an...
The governing body passed the recent fiscal year 2016-2017 budget two weeks ago and to get to that approval was just that, a process. We are always looking at the budget and managing all of its elements, and as a city, we developed our initial internal and external meetings schedule in February. This schedule included department head meetings, Finance Committee meetings, six promoted workshops for the public on elements of the budget such as community service requests, the enterprise funds and their rate study, fee schedules, the general fund,...
It has been in the works for years and there have been numerous articles and meetings about the changes coming ahead for residents and customers who use our landfill facilities, but it seems there can never be enough communication when it comes to projects that impact so many of us. Next week on Nov. 10, the Green River City Council will host a workshop that will provide an update on the “Cease and Transfer Project.” This simply means we need to “cease” using the landfill and build a “transfer” station by the end of 2017. No, this doesn’t mean...
This week brings about my 100th day working as the City Administrator for the City of Green River, and I want to say thank you to all of our residents, city employees, and our governing body who are working hard to contribute to our success in so many ways. I also appreciate the help, patience, and advice that I have received from everyone working within the City of Green River along with those agencies and businesses we deal with on a regular basis. Prior to taking the position I was familiarizing myself with city government, by being a board...
