This past week the Green River Wolves Boys and Girls Varsity Wrestling teams competed in Riverton at the 3A Regional Championships. The Boys competed with eight other teams from the west including Pinedale, Cody, Powell, Evanston, Riverton, Lyman, Lander and Mountain View. Green River’s Indoor Track team traveled to Pocatello, Idaho this past week to compete in one of the top high school Indoor Track meets in the nation, the Simplot Games. The team headed to the ICCU Dome, formerly the Holt Arena, on the campus of Idaho State University along with 21 other teams from Wyoming, as well as teams from many states and some foreign countries. On Tuesday, January 30, the Green River Wolves Indoor Track Throwers competed in an unscheduled throwers-only meet at Evanston High School’s new Bubble Facility against throwers from Evanston, Rock Springs and Mountain View. Below are the results from this impromptu meet. The Indoor Track team had a makeup meet scheduled for Saturday, February 10 at Natrona County High in Casper. This past Wednesday, the Green River Wolves Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity Wrestling teams returned to the friendly confines of Wolves Gym on Senior Night to take on the Evanston Red Devils. The Varsity team defeated Evanston 62-12. Evanston did not bring a girls team, so the Lady Wolves had the night off. This past Thursday, the Green River High School Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity traveled to the Star Valley High School in Afton to take on the always-formidable Star Valley Braves Wrestling teams. The Wolves Varsity defeated Star Valley 43-25 while the Junior Varsity scored a 62-50 win over the Braves. The team’s first meet will be in Casper at the Natrona Invitational on Saturday, January 13. The Green River Wolves traveled to Jackson Hole to play in what was characterized as a "must win" game for either team as the Wolves came in with a 1-4 overall record and Jackson was 2-4. This past Friday at the Wolves' Homecoming varsity football game, Green River played host to the number one team in 3A, the undefeated perennial power Cody Broncs. Cody is dominating the state statistics in virtually all areas - offense, defense and special teams. On a beautiful late summer evening this past week, the Green River Wolves, with a record of 1-2, took on the visiting Worland Warriors with a similar 1-2 record.
