The Green River High School Track and Field Team traveled to the "Icebox Capital of the World" this past Friday for the Puncher Invite in Big Piney. Practice started last Monday, March 4, for the Green River High School Girls and Boys Outdoor Track and Field participants, right after the end of the Indoor Track season. Many of the Indoor Track athletes were joined by new athletes that participated in other winter sports. The Green River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track team participated this past week in the Wyoming Indoor State Track and Field Championships hosted by Campbell County High School in Gillette. Both the young boys and girls teams finished 13th out of the 18 teams participating. Green River had seven participants make the finals for the boys and girls. The Green River Wolves capped a very successful wrestling season by capturing the 2024 3A State Boys Varsity Wrestling Championship for the second year in a row. In the field of seventeen teams, the Green River High School Wrestling team scored 242 points, putting them 30 points ahead of a very strong second-place Pinedale team. This past week the Green River Wolves Boys and Girls Varsity Wrestling teams competed in Riverton at the 3A Regional Championships. The Boys competed with eight other teams from the west including Pinedale, Cody, Powell, Evanston, Riverton, Lyman, Lander and Mountain View. Green River’s Indoor Track team traveled to Pocatello, Idaho this past week to compete in one of the top high school Indoor Track meets in the nation, the Simplot Games. The team headed to the ICCU Dome, formerly the Holt Arena, on the campus of Idaho State University along with 21 other teams from Wyoming, as well as teams from many states and some foreign countries. On Tuesday, January 30, the Green River Wolves Indoor Track Throwers competed in an unscheduled throwers-only meet at Evanston High School’s new Bubble Facility against throwers from Evanston, Rock Springs and Mountain View. This past Wednesday, the Green River Wolves Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity Wrestling teams returned to the friendly confines of Wolves Gym on Senior Night to take on the Evanston Red Devils. The Varsity team defeated Evanston 62-12. Evanston did not bring a girls team, so the Lady Wolves had the night off. This past Thursday, the Green River High School Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity traveled to the Star Valley High School in Afton to take on the always-formidable Star Valley Braves Wrestling teams.
