This time of year reminds us to take a step back and reflect on the things we are thankful for. I assume the thing that’s most important to the majority of us is our family and that certainly is the case for me. I have been blessed with a beautiful wife for nearly 30 years and she has given us two incredible sons that give me the motivation and inspiration for all I do in life. My happiest moments in life are those that I have shared with my family and for that I am truly thankful! Another major aspect of my life that I am grateful for is my c...

On Powell’s very first offensive series, they tried to fool G...

When asked if I would be interested in writing an article about what I love about Green River I jumped at the opportunity as there are so many wonderful things to celebrate about our community. First and foremost, “hello,” it’s the people. This past weekend, for example, we concluded one of our city’s most successful and enjoyable family events, The Crystal Classic Winter Festival. At the awards dinner, the participants from Ohio, Montana, Wisconsin, Utah and Missouri amongst others, all spoke about how congenial, helpful, and friendly our sta...
Over the past year, oil and gas prices have fallen and coal production has struggled due to Federal regulations principally concerned with deteriorating air quality. Since a majority of state revenue is linked to these resources a tighter state budget will result with a trickledown effect to local governments. Counties, cities, and towns will most likely be facing similar tasks and working around balancing their future budgets with reduced sources of revenues. A great debate is expected when the legislature convenes in February relative to the...
The city has been provided the opportunity by the Green River Star to have different staff write an article in the weekly edition and for this week the schedule calls for a member of the Council or mayor to contribute so I thought I would let our citizens know about a trip myself, our new City Administrator Reed Clevenger, and our Solid Waste Supervisor, Linda Roosa made to Cheyenne last week. We traveled to Cheyenne to appear before the State Land and Investment Board made up of the governor, the secretary of state, the state treasurer, the...
