    The Wolves hit the road for their second consecutive week for a long road trip to take on the Jackson Broncs. On paper, they were the superior team, but they did not let up from the opening whistle until near the end of the first half when they had the game well in hand with a dominating first half performance on offense, defense and special teams.     On a beautiful night in Green River, the Wolves, second ranked in 3A, took on the Evanston Red Devils, who were fresh off a big road victory over Powell the previous week. The homecoming game for the Wolves was competitive down to the final minutes in the renewal of an old rivalry with Evanston dropping down to 3A this year.     On a cold, wet night for the second week in a row, the Green River Wolves came up against the top defense in 3A in the always tough Cody Broncs and came away with a hard fought 21-13 win. The Wolves remain undefeated on the year at 4-0. It was a classic battle between the No. 1 ranked defense from Cody and Green River's No. 1 ranked offense.     The Green River Wolves took on Riverton and played their first game in front of a large home crowd at Wolves Stadium, ending the GRHS Hall of Fame game with a dominating 56-21 victory. This time, the Wolves faced a stronger opponent in the Wolverines, but the team were no match for the Wolves as Green River dominated on offense and defense from the opening kick.     The Wolves traveled north to open the season against the Lander Tigers, taking the Tigers down 42-6. The Wolves started on defense to begin the game, utilizing a combination of experienced veteran upperclassman and supported early by sophomores Isaacc Ungaro, Payton Tucker, and Taylor Jensen, among others.     While neither the Wolves nor the Rock Springs Tigers were able to crown any state champions this State meet, there were some good performances from the locals. Leading the way for the Lady Wolves, as she has done all season, was junior Andri Dewey, who took second place in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.     The Wolves Boys and Girls Track team had prequalified nine competitors prior to this weekend's regional meet in Rock Springs and came out of the meet with an additional 12 competitors, including three regional champions, that will be heading to the 2017 State Track Championships.     On May 2, the more experienced competitors and top qualifiers for State headed North to Casper for the Casper Classic. Generally referred to as The Best of The Best, top qualifiers regardless of their division compete against each other, since at state they will only be competing within their conference. Leading the way for the Lady Wolves, junior Andri Dewey finished second in the 200 meters with a season best time of 26.52.     Once again the Wolves Track team headed south, this time to Orem, Utah to take on two other Wyoming teams and a huge field of 41 schools from Utah The biggest field of the day was in the 1,600-meter run, which had 130 runners.     This past Thursday the Green River Track team traveled west to take on a familiar group of opponents as they competed against all the Southwest Wyoming teams at Evanston.     Track kicked off this past week for the Wolves as the team split up to attend two meets over the weekend. The younger kids headed west Thursday to compete in the Lyman High School Track Meet against teams from Mountain View, Farson and host Lyman.     With 35 teams from Wyoming, Utah and Idaho and over 1,000 athletes competing, the Wolves kicked of their 2017 outdoor track season this past weekend.     This past weekend the Wolves traveled north to compete in the State Indoor Track Championships in Gillette. The boys were led by senior sprinter and long jumper Kalen Kester and senior distance runner Braden Reichl. Both broke personal records in their specialties. Kester came into the meet with a state-qualifying time of 6.74 seconds in the 55-meter sprint and immediately improved that time in the preliminaries, finishing second at 6.70.     The Green River Boy’s and Girl’s Indoor Track Team traveled to Pocatello, Idaho, to compete along with 15 other Wyoming schools and more than 2,000 athletes from 20 States, Canada, Mexico and Australia in the 39th Annual Simplot games one of the Nations premier Indoor Track meets.     The Green River Girls and Boys Indoor Track Team headed east to Laramie for the first time this season to compete in an all Wyoming competition featuring ten teams. Teams represented were the three Cheyenne schools, Natrona County, Laramie, Rock Springs, Riverton, along with smaller schools Tongue River, Glenrock and Big Horn County attending the event.
