The Green River High School Girls and Boys Indoor Track Team got their first opportunity to compete in Wyoming when they traveled to the Gem City to participate in the Laramie Invitational. Head track coach Dan Hansen said the Laramie meet went well. Hansen said Kyle Cacho came within 3 inches of the school record in the boys triple jump. The Green River High School Girls and Boys Indoor Track team again headed south this past week to compete in Kerns, Utah, and Utah Valley State University for the two day Utah High School Track Coaches Association Indoor Invitational. The Wolves competed with 28 other girls teams and 33 other boys teams, with as many as 376 competitors in a single event. The Wolves hit the road for their second consecutive week for a long road trip to take on the Jackson Broncs. On a cold, wet night for the second week in a row, the Green River Wolves came up against the top defense in 3A in the always tough Cody Broncs and came away with a hard fought 21-13 win. The Wolves Boys and Girls Track team had prequalified nine competitors prior to this weekend's regional meet in Rock Springs and came out of the meet with an additional 12 competitors, including three regional champions, that will be heading to the 2017 State Track Championships. On May 2, the more experienced competitors and top qualifiers for State headed North to Casper for the Casper Classic. Generally referred to as The Best of The Best, top qualifiers regardless of their division compete against each other, since at state they will only be competing within their conference. The younger kids headed west Thursday to compete in the Lyman High School Track Meet against teams from Mountain View, Farson and host Lyman. This past weekend the Wolves traveled north to compete in the State Indoor Track Championships in Gillette. The boys were led by senior sprinter and long jumper Kalen Kester and senior distance runner Braden Reichl. Both broke personal records in their specialties.
