    This past week the Green River High School Indoor Track Team sent their best boys distance runner, Marcos Valerio, south to the regional Utah High School Track Coaches Association Meet in Kearns, Utah, while the rest of the team traveled to the Wyoming High School Open in Laramie to compete against the three Cheyenne teams, as well as Casper, Gillette, Douglas, Western Heritage, Rock Springs and Riverton.     The Green River Wolves Boys and Girls Indoor Track Team competed in their second indoor track meet of the season at BYU, though their participation was cut short by winter weather and bad travel conditions on the way to Provo, Utah. The team missed the first day of competition Jan. 18, which included all the field events, including the throws and the jumping events.   • Wolves narrowly lose to Evanston in 19-14 game

    Green River hit the road last week to make the short trip West to take on the 4-1 Evanston Red Devils. Green River kicked to Evanston to start the game and the first defensive play of the game was a tackle for a loss by Green River’s Payton Tucker. Green River got gave up a couple of big runs, but on first down, Wolf Russell Ferrell stopped Evanston for a 1-yard gain.     The No. 2 ranked and undefeated Jackson Broncos rolled into town Friday night, with the leading rusher in the state and proceeded to run 90 percent of their offense through their leading ball carrier.     The Wolves hit the road for the second week in a row to take on the always tough Star Valley Braves in their conference opener Friday, but ended with a difficult 31-0 shutout in favor of the Braves.     After two home games in the friendly confines of Wolves Stadium, the Wolves took the long trip down I-80 to take on the undefeated and always tough Torrington Trailblazers. It would be a rough contest for the Wolves, who left the field with a 31-9 loss.     The Green River Track team traveled to Jackson to compete in the 4A West Regionals in less than ideal weather. Teams from Evanston, Rock Springs, Jackson, Natrona and Kelly Walsh also competed at the meet.     Due to a 30-degree, windy, wet forecast for the Kelly Walsh Invitational, track coach Dan Hansen rescheduled a meet for Friday to Vernal, Utah and 60-degree weather, with calm winds and only a soft rain.     Weather resulted in the Wolves outdoor track team canceling their first scheduled meet in Kearns, Utah. In order to avoid a second cancellation, the Pete Olsen Memorial Track Meet in Big Piney was rescheduled from March 23 to March 21 to avoid a forecasted snow storm. Seven area teams participated in the local meet, including the host Big Piney, Pinedale, Mountain View, Jackson, Farson-Eden, Lyman and Green River.     The Green River High School Girls and Boys Indoor Track Team got their first opportunity to compete in Wyoming when they traveled to the Gem City to participate in the Laramie Invitational.
