The Green River Wolves Girls and Boys Cross Country teams participated in the Lander Invitational this past week in between rain storms on a muddy cross country course at the Lander Golf and Country Club against ten other local teams. Head Cross Country Coach Craig Leavitt commented that it was "a slick race with lots of kids slipping and falling in the mud on the hills." Last Friday the Green River Wolves celebrated their first win in two years. The Wolves played host to the visiting Rawlins Outlaws, who were fresh off a big 39-7 win over Pinedale. The Green River Cross Country boys and girls teams competed this past Saturday at the Chief Nation Invitational Cross Country Meet in Ethete, Wyoming against twenty teams with approximately 200 runners from schools from across the state. This past Friday the Green River Wolves hosted the 1-0 Lander Tigers who were fresh off a 54- 0 home win over Pinedale. The Tigers kicked to the Wolves with the ball going deep out of the end zone, preventing any return. The Wolves' offense was unable to move the ball on their first series and got off a short punt to the tigers. Green River’s girls and boys cross country teams traveled this past weekend to Soda Springs, Idaho for a huge cross country regional meet with 40 schools and over 300 competitors from Southwest Wyoming, Idaho and Utah. Last Friday night the Green River Wolves took on the 0-2 Uintah Utes at Wolves stadium and came away with a 42-7 defeat. Uintah had the advantage of having already played two games and had about an equal number of upperclassmen. The Green River High School track teams competed at Casper Natrona High School in the West 4A Regionals last week, giving the top eight finishers qualifying a chance to go back to Casper this week for the Wyoming State Track Championships at Kelly Walsh High School. Green River’s track team headed north last Thursday to compete with a new group of teams including the host Cody, Powell, Worland, St. Stephens, and Sheridan. In the sprints for the Lady Wolves, seven sprinters were entered, all of whom will be returning next year for the young Green River team. The Wyoming weather played havoc with the spring track season as the week prior to the second Green River Invite most meets throughout the state were canceled. On a blustery wind chilled day in early spring, the Green River girls and boys track teams took the short drive to Rock Springs Saturday to compete with 13 other Southwest Wyoming track teams used to this unpredictable April weather to compete in the annual Ted Schroeder Invitational, named for the school’s former track coach. The Wolves completed a very tough schedule with a one-sided loss to the always tough Star Valley to finish the season 0-8 despite playing hard and never giving up all season.
