The BOCES Adventure Challenge group enjoyed working on an art project June 8 as part of the two-week activity program. Adventure Challenge is sponsored by Sweetwater BOCES and takes place the first two weeks of summer. This summer marked the 26th year the Adventure Challenge has been active. Summer is approaching, but with the rise in temperatures comes a rise in possible fire danger. The Green River Police Department is currently investigating recent reports of vandalism to local businesses and vehicles. According to Green River Police Department Det. Luke Benson, sometime around July 27 and 28 during the night or early morning, the Walk N Run Day Care and a vehicle on the property, the Green River Recreation Center, and a vehicle on Alabama Drive were spray painted with red spray paint. Green River seniors will get a chance to try their hands at table games and the one-armed bandits in Riverton this weekend. The Golden Hour Senior Center attendees will head off to Riverton this Saturday for their Casino Day Trip. The center goes to the Wind River Casino four times a month as a part of their monthly activities. Carmen Tune is the hostess each trip. They started the casino trips about three years ago, with the trips becoming successful at attracting interest. For example, on Aug. 8, there were 31 people who went on the trip.....
The 14th Annual River Festival will provide lots of family fun as summer comes to a close. The festival will take place Friday and Saturday at Expedition Island. Every summer since 2009, my uncle, dad, brother and I go on a hike, and every summer I wonder why I let my family drag me up these godforsaken mountains. My first trip was to the Wind River Range. The goal was to hike up Fremont Peak. I did not achieve that goal. Instead I got a minor case of altitude sickness and had to sit just below the peak with my dad while my uncle and brother finished the summit. The sky was gray but it didn't stop the community from checking out the Green River Farmers Market. The first farmers market of the summer was last week. The day was full of barbecuing and good conversation for the Golden Hour Senior Center. The GHSC hosted its annual Picnic in the Park last Wednesday at Expedition Island. Monday was the first day for residential mosquito fogging and it will continue throughout the week. The spring rain is a cause for fires in the dry summer heat. Thanks to a rainy May, the area is very green with a lot of moisture. Airplanes took flight Saturday morning at the third annual Community Spaceport Day at the Greater Green River Intergalactic Spaceport south of Green River. The 36th annual re-ride of the Pony Express National Historic Trail passed through Granger Saturday. The National Pony Express Association (NPEA) started their annual re-ride June 15 in St. Joseph, Mo. and will end in Sacramento, Calif. June 25. Mountain bikers from across the region will gather at the Wilkins Peak Trail System Saturday as the Sweetwater Mountain Bike Association and the Green River Chamber of Commerce host their annual Trails Day.
